Farm profile

A working fiber farm with several levels of visitor access

Buck Brook Alpacas is a family-owned farm in the Western Catskills. Alpaca breeding, livestock sales, fiber production, agritourism, and retail all operate from the same property. Visitors primarily come for the alpacas, but the public experience can also include llamas, sheep, goats, rabbits, peacocks, barn cats, and other farm residents.

Instead of one standard tour, Buck Brook offers several ticket types. Guests can explore independently with a map, begin with a short staff introduction, reserve a private educational tour, or book a 30-minute walk with an individual alpaca. Seasonal yoga, assisted photo sessions, private gatherings, and special events add other reasons to visit.

Public farm visits

Explore independently or begin with a guided welcome

General admission provides a farm map with animal facts and lets guests move through the designated visitor areas at their own pace. Most people finish in under an hour, although the experience is not restricted to a fixed tour length. Feed can be purchased during check-in for supervised hand-feeding of alpacas and other animals.

The guided-welcome ticket starts with about 15 minutes of staff-led orientation and questions before visitors continue independently. It includes a small cup of feed and expands the introduction to the farm’s fiber animals. Both formats require every visitor to check in at the farm store upon arrival, and children age five and younger are currently admitted without charge.

Reserved experiences

Walks, private tours, yoga, photos, and celebrations

Alpaca walks pair one participant with one animal for a 30-minute route. Strollers are not allowed on the walk, and children younger than 12 must share an alpaca with an accompanying adult. Friends or family members who want to walk alongside without handling an alpaca need general-admission tickets. These rules make the walk different from simply adding animal time to ordinary admission.

Private tours offer approximately 30 to 40 minutes of guided education for small or larger groups. The farm also schedules alpaca yoga during selected seasons and offers 40-minute staff-assisted photo sessions that require at least 48 hours of advance planning. Customized private events can combine walks, crafts, herd interaction, and food service for birthdays, showers, reunions, school trips, weddings, and other gatherings.

Farm store and overnight stay

Fiber goods downstairs and lodging above the barn

The farm store serves as both the visitor check-in point and a substantial retail operation. Its in-person and online collections include yarn, fleece, roving, hand-knit pieces, clothing, socks, hats, blankets, home goods, children’s items, ornaments, gifts, and locally handmade products made with fiber from the herd. Inventory changes, so the live store is the place to check current availability.

An apartment above the barn provides an overnight farm stay with broad Catskills views and the animals housed below. The stay includes a guided farm tour, but visitors can otherwise use the apartment as a quiet base rather than participate in farm chores. Availability and reservations are handled through the lodging platform linked by Buck Brook; this profile links only to the farm’s own lodging information.

A flexible Catskills farm visit

Buck Brook provides more entry choices than many New York alpaca farms. Independent visitors can explore with a map, first-time guests can add a guided welcome, and people seeking more structured animal time can reserve a walk or private tour.

The farm store makes alpaca fiber uses visible through yarn and finished goods, while the farm stay extends the experience overnight. Families can also review how to meet alpacas calmly before taking part in feeding or close animal interaction.
