Fall days in New Mexico
Pumpkin patches
& harvest outings
Pick a pumpkin. Ride out to the fields. Leave time for a maze and a little more play.
More than a pumpkin stop
Make a day of the patch.
These outings pair pumpkins with enough to explore: corn mazes, wagon rides, farm games, animal areas or harvest events. The selection includes working farms and a substantial seasonal event site, with each setting explained below.
Admission and pumpkin purchases are often separate. Check the details before choosing between a quick shopping visit and an afternoon of attractions.

Before heading to the patch
A little planning leaves more time to play.
Put the ride first
Wagon trips and pumpkin picking may finish before the rest of the attraction closes. Check the last departure before heading into a long maze.
Count the whole cost
Allow for admission, pumpkins, food and optional activities. An entry ticket does not always include everything pictured on the website.
Choose a manageable maze
Ask about a short route for younger children. Bring water and take a break before starting if everyone has already been running around.
Prepare for the ground
Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes. Ask about stroller routes, wagon access and uneven paths if those affect your visit.
After the pumpkins come home
Keep a few easy outings in mind.
The pumpkin trip may be the big fall plan, but it need not fill every weekend. Save a few farm visits and family outing ideas for a quieter day when everyone wants to get out for a little while.
If the farm animals held your children’s attention longer than the maze, learn more about alpacas together before arranging a visit. A few familiar facts can give a child something to notice and ask about when they arrive.
For an autumn road trip or a visit to relatives, look through farm outings by state and choose something near your existing route. Keeping the extra drive short leaves more room for the visit itself.
