Farm profile

An alpaca visit connected to a working herd

Jackie Armiger and Ric Gaskill operate Windy Farm Alpacas in historic Chesterfield Township. Established in 1999, the farm combines a fine-fleeced Huacaya breeding program with an approachable visitor side built around pasture interaction, fiber education, and seasonal public days.

That combination distinguishes Windy Farm from New Jersey alpaca farms that concentrate exclusively on either livestock or public entertainment. Visitors can meet and feed the herd, while prospective owners can explore current animals, herdsires, breeding services, and farm support.

Private farm tours

Go into the pasture with the alpacas

Private tours are scheduled directly with the farm and are offered throughout the year when weather and farm work permit. Windy Farm asks visitors to arrange their tour at least a day ahead rather than arriving without an appointment.

Pasture

Interact and feed

The structured visit includes time inside the pasture rather than limiting guests to a view from outside the fence.

Learn

Alpaca history and care

The tour introduces alpaca characteristics, daily farm life, natural fiber, and the purpose of a breeding herd.

Shop

Visit the store and studio

Tour guests can browse yarn, fleece, roving, apparel, rugs, blankets, and other alpaca products after meeting the herd.

Open-farm weekends

Two weekends to visit without a private booking

Windy Farm is advertising fall open-farm days for September 26–27 and October 3–4, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The events are scheduled for rain or shine, with the alpacas moved into the barn if conditions require it.

These public days combine pasture visits with hand-spinning demonstrations and access to the indoor store and studio. Watching fleece become yarn gives families a more complete view of alpacas and the fiber they produce than an animal encounter alone.

Behind the visitor experience

Fine fleece and natural color remain central

Windy Farm maintains a multicolored Huacaya herd and evaluates animals for fleece fineness, crimp, color, conformation, and breeding potential. Its current herd pages include females, junior herdsires, established males, and animals available for purchase or outside breeding.

The farm publishes individual animal profiles with pedigrees, fleece measurements, offspring information, and breeding notes. It also advertises financing arrangements for some sales and encourages prospective owners to make an appointment to discuss available alpacas and farm goals.
