Farm profile

Personal visits without the crowds

Pequest Cut Off Farm is operated by John and Angela Reinhart on a countryside property beside the Pequest River. The family began its herd with three male alpacas, later added females, and now welcomes guests who want a quieter, scheduled encounter with the animals.

Unlike a large walk-in attraction, the farm organizes visits around individual appointments. That gives it a distinctive place among New Jersey alpaca farms: visitors choose either a guided walk or a shorter feeding experience suited to younger families.

Meet the herd at your own pace

Both visitor options include close time with the alpacas, but they are designed for different ages and comfort levels. Reservations are required, and the farm generally schedules appointments Monday through Saturday.

The setting

A farm named for the landscape behind it

The farm takes its name from the Pequest Cut-Off, a historic railroad route whose raised embankment forms a prominent backdrop to the property. Together with the nearby river and Sussex County countryside, it gives the alpaca walk a setting that feels separate from a standard petting enclosure.

Walking beside an alpaca also gives visitors time to notice how these herd animals move, pause, and respond to their surroundings. Those moments provide a practical introduction to alpaca behavior and daily life without turning the visit into a formal class.

Beyond the alpaca walk

Small harvests and seasonal farm activities

Pequest Cut Off Farm also grows flowers, strawberries, blackberries, sunflowers, and pumpkins and produces eggs and honey. Availability follows the growing season rather than a fixed year-round calendar.

The farm has promoted spring flower and strawberry picking, later-summer berry picking, and a fall Pumpkin Mania event. These activities can give returning visitors another reason to come back, but dates and crop availability are announced separately through the farm's website and social accounts.
