The farm

Built around approachable alpacas and new-owner support

David and Gabrielle Feighner left suburban life in 2018 for a 10-acre farm in Haslett, just outside Lansing. Their breeding program centers on registered Huacaya alpacas selected not only for breeding qualities, but also for temperament and ease of handling.

That makes Feighner Family Farms a useful stop for people looking beyond a casual farm visit and seriously considering alpaca ownership. Among the farms featured in this directory, Feighner puts unusual emphasis on helping first-time owners understand the animals before taking a starter herd home.

Breeding herd & sales

Huacayas for sale, foundation animals, and active herdsires

The farm's current herd listings include females, young males, proven and unproven animals, foundation-herd alpacas, and multiple herdsires. Several animals are offered with published sale prices, while the breeding males include advertised stud fees.

Feighner also emphasizes gentle training and socialization. For new owners, that focus can matter as much as pedigree: learning how alpacas behave and interact is part of building a manageable herd rather than simply purchasing animals from a sales list.

For new alpaca owners

The sale is only part of the process

Feighner's approach is geared toward people who may be buying their first small herd. The farm describes helping customers with education, hands-on experience, animal selection, and questions that come up after the alpacas arrive home.

The farm also maintains an online store and has taken part in public alpaca events and farm tours. Its main identity, though, remains closely tied to the herd itself and to helping new owners get started. More breeder-focused operations can be found among our Michigan alpaca farm profiles.
