About the farm
Breeding alpacas in northern Michigan for more than two decades
Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm & Boutique is a multi-generational family farm in Frankfort. The family welcomed its first alpacas in 2001 and has since raised hundreds of animals while developing breeding stock for its own herd and other farms.
For people comparing alpaca farms in Michigan, Crystal Lake stands out because livestock breeding and sales remain part of the business alongside public farm experiences and retail. The farm offers fiber animals, show-quality alpacas, pets, breeding stock, and stud services.
Breeding & sales
Animals for different kinds of alpaca owners
Crystal Lake sells alpacas for several purposes rather than focusing on a single type of buyer. Its current sales information includes animals suited to fiber production, showing, companionship, and breeding programs.
Registered females can also be bred to the farm's males through its stud service. New owners can arrange one-on-one guidance during their first year, which can be useful for buyers who are moving from simply enjoying alpacas to managing a herd of their own.

A working herd that visitors can also experience
The Frankfort farm is open seasonally for visitors, with an animal park where guests can feed and see alpacas up close. The farm also operates alpaca retail locations, including its Frankfort boutique and a year-round Traverse City shop.
That mix gives Crystal Lake a broader profile than a breeding-only operation: visitors can meet the animals, while prospective owners can contact the farm separately about livestock, breeding, and herd development.
