The rental idea returned in a different form
East Coast Alpacas began while Marc and Melissa Worrell were considering an investment in rental property. Managing buildings and tenants became less appealing as their interest in alpacas grew, so the family redirected its plans toward establishing a Huacaya farm in Biddeford.
The property eventually brought the two ideas together. East Coast Alpacas now combines a working breeding program with a furnished farm getaway, creating a different kind of overnight option among alpaca farms in Maine.
Inside the getaway
A complete apartment rather than a converted guest room
The accommodation is arranged for an independent stay, with separate spaces for relaxing, cooking, dining, and sleeping. Modern farmhouse details and alpaca touches connect the interior to the property without turning every room into a theme.

Beyond the apartment
A working farm outside the door
East Coast Alpacas is not lodging with a few decorative animals nearby. The family built paddocks, barns, water systems, and a breeding program around the daily care of Huacaya alpacas.
Huacaya breeding
Fiber, genetics, and temperament
The farm says it breeds selectively, looking at genetic background, fleece quality, and temperament rather than breeding every available animal. Its published program includes established Huacaya bloodlines without making the getaway page read like a livestock catalog.
Farm design
Built around clean fleece and year-round care
Washed stone-dust paddocks are intended to help keep fleece clean and control what the alpacas eat. The property also includes heated waterers, predator-resistant fencing, chickens around the paddocks, and a large livestock barn added as the farm grew.
