The current farm

Animals, walking routes, and farm-grown yarn

Cape Newagen Farm moved from Southport to North Yarmouth in 2026 and retained the name it had used for eleven years. The present property sits in rolling countryside above the Royal River, where the family continues raising alpacas, sheep, and laying hens.

Its combination of guided outings and fiber work gives visitors two ways to understand the farm. Some come to walk or meet the animals, while others are drawn to Maine-grown yarn and classes that follow what happens after fleece leaves an alpaca or sheep.

The farm's scheduled experiences connect outdoor time with the agricultural work that produces its yarn and fiber goods.

On the land

Tours and guided alpaca treks

Viewing-pen tours introduce the animals and their care. Longer treks take very small groups across the property with the owners serving as guides.

After shearing

Yarn, fiber classes, and the shop

Alpaca and sheep fleece becomes farm yarn, blended yarn, and materials used in classes, with finished fiber goods available through the shop.

From individual animals

Farm yarn with a traceable beginning

Cape Newagen sells yarn identified with individual alpacas, along with blends combining alpaca fleece and sheep wool. Fleeces are prepared separately before milling, helping preserve the natural color and the connection between the finished skein and the animals that produced it.

More than alpaca alone

Finn sheep add wool to the fiber program, while hens remain part of the small mixed farm.
