Farm overview

Two camelid species and two sides of farm life

Hitch’N Post began after its owners visited a friend’s farm and then researched animal selection across many other operations. The resulting foundation herd has grown into a Woodstock farm that raises both llamas and alpacas, including animals developed for breeding and competition.

The farm’s story also connects the animals with education, social contact, and emotional support. That mission gives Hitch’N Post a broader public role than farms focused only on livestock transactions, while breeding decisions and show results remain prominent in its current work.

The working herd

Alpacas and llamas under one farm name

The farm maintains separate animal profiles, sales information, and show records for the two species.

Alpacas

Fleece, pedigrees, and future pairings

The alpaca program discusses color, fineness, density, staple length, uniformity, ancestry, and show performance when presenting breeding males and other animals.

Llamas

A distinct group within the herd

The llamas appear in their own herd and sales sections. The farm also describes a protective role for one of its llamas around the alpacas.

Breeding and showing

Selection supported by the show ring

Hitch’N Post publishes recent halter, walking-fleece, and fleece-show results alongside individual animal histories. Its current pages highlight banner-winning alpacas and males being prepared for future breeding availability.

Tours, events, and the cottage store

Appointment tours introduce visitors to both species, their care, and the use of their fiber. The farm welcomes families and organized groups and includes supervised paddock interaction when conditions allow. Visitors should confirm the current format before traveling to this part of Illinois.

Seasonal activities have included alpaca-and-llama yoga, farm-stroll dates, National Alpaca Farm Days, and photo sessions. The Country Cottage store carries yarn, rugs, blankets, dryer balls, clothing, and other alpaca-fiber goods; access and inventory may vary.
