Out of Sight Alpacas

Hands-on farm tours, one-mile alpaca hikes, private gatherings, off-site animal visits, and a gift shop at a family-run Ocean County farm.

The farm

An alpaca farm with a much broader barnyard tour

Out of Sight Alpacas is a family-run farm in Waretown, in Ocean County. The family purchased its first eight alpacas in 2010 and describes a herd that grew to approximately 30 Huacaya alpacas. Alpaca fiber remains part of the farm's identity, but public visits now introduce guests to many more animals than alpacas alone.

The farm's one-hour educational tour is designed around direct animal encounters. Its current tour description names mini Highland cattle, sheep, goats, mules, turkeys, giant rabbits, emus, pigs, ducks, and chickens among the possible barn companions. Separate alpaca hikes, private celebrations, school and homeschool trips, photo sessions, team events, and traveling animal visits are also advertised.

Reservations are required for all visitors. Tour openings, hike dates, group arrangements, animal availability, and event details can change; use the farm's reservation system or contact it directly before traveling.

Three ways to spend time with the animals

Standard tours, trail hikes, and custom group arrangements follow different reservation processes.

Educational animal encounters

Meet the alpacas and their barn companions.

Reserved farm tours last one hour and give guests opportunities to meet, pet, and learn about the farm's animals. Alpacas are joined by a changing barnyard collection that the farm currently describes as including mini Highland cattle, sheep, goats, mules, giant rabbits, emus, pigs, poultry, and more.

A walk beyond the animal pens

Take an alpaca onto the trails around the farm.

The farm describes its alpaca hike as a one-mile walk on surrounding trails. Children must be at least 10 years old to walk their own alpaca. Hikes require reservations, and current dates and prices should be confirmed through the farm.

Practical details

What to know before reserving

Reservations and payment

Every visitor needs an arranged time

The farm does not advertise drop-in access. Standard tours are currently listed at $12 per person with cash or $15 per person by credit card. Children age two and under should be left off the reservation; if included, the farm says they occupy a paid spot.

Cancellations and pets

Give notice and leave dogs at home

Tour cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Visitor dogs are not allowed because they upset the alpacas. The farm asks guests who need its barn kennel option to make contact ahead of time.

Mobility and terrain

Plan for sandy ground

The farm says standard wheelchairs do not move well through the sand. All-terrain chairs, strollers, walkers, and canes can be used, and one farm-friendly wheelchair may be borrowed when arranged in advance.

Farm-specific answers

Questions before an Out of Sight visit

Can I visit without booking a tour?

No. The farm states that all visitors currently need reservations. Use the tour-booking page for a standard visit or contact the farm about a hike, private group, photo session, or gift-shop appointment.

Will we interact with animals during the tour?

Yes. The farm describes the tour as a hands-on experience in which guests go into the animal areas to meet and pet the residents while learning about them.

Is the tour limited to alpacas?

No. Alpacas are central to the farm, but the tour may include mini Highland cattle, sheep, goats, mules, giant rabbits, emus, pigs, ducks, chickens, turkeys, and other barn animals. The mix can change over time.

Can a wheelchair or stroller be used at the farm?

The farm says strollers, walkers, canes, and all-terrain wheelchairs can be used. Sandy ground makes standard wheelchairs difficult to push, but the farm has one terrain-suitable wheelchair that visitors can request in advance.

When can I shop for alpaca products?

The gift shop opens after each farm tour, party, or event. Shopping at another time is available by appointment; text or email the farm to arrange it.

Compare your options

When you need a different kind of visit

Out of Sight Alpacas is organized around reserved, hands-on activities rather than open daily hours. Its mix of one-hour barnyard tours, one-mile alpaca hikes, and private arrangements may suit visitors who can plan ahead. If you need drop-in access, a different date, or a more alpaca-focused tour, check alpaca farms in New Jersey before choosing a destination.

The farm also stands apart for traveling programs and its unusually broad collection of barn companions. Families, educators, and event organizers comparing that format with fiber workshops, breeding farms, public festivals, or alpaca-only encounters can use the alpaca farm directory to look at farms across the country.
