RouteAbout five miles through Hines Park

Wayne County Lightfest follows a long stretch of Hines Park rather than circling a parking lot. Nearly 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights appear along the roadway, giving families a substantial route that can be experienced entirely from their own vehicle.

The Merriman Road entrance leads into a sequence of arches, illuminated characters, and animated scenes. Wayne County also schedules walking, running, and cycling events before normal vehicle nights begin, so visitors should make sure they are viewing the standard Lightfest calendar when planning a drive.

The county has published the 2026 schedule through Christmas Eve. Check the official page before leaving home for admission details, traffic notices, and any weather-related changes.

Nite Lites turns the expansive grounds of Michigan International Speedway into an approximately 6.5-mile Christmas route. Cars move through illuminated tunnels, large animated characters, animals, and winter scenes spread across the property.

Admission is charged per vehicle rather than per passenger. A separate Christmas train experience is also offered, but each rider needs an individual train ticket. The drive-through remains open in rain or snow and is scheduled on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The current event information lists the 2026–27 dates, hours, vehicle categories, and entrance instructions. Families interested in the train should reserve that separately rather than assuming it is part of vehicle admission.

AdmissionPer vehicle; larger-vehicle rates available

Merry Mile uses the Calhoun County Fairgrounds for a compact drive-through display of illuminated scenes. The fairgrounds operates the event directly and posts its calendar, vehicle categories, and admission information on a dedicated page.

The light route is the central attraction, although special events are added on selected dates. An Eggnog Jog takes place before the vehicle season, and other programming may appear as December approaches.

The display is not open every night, making the published date blocks important. Payment is accepted at the ticket booth, and vehicles carrying larger groups fall into separate admission categories.

SettingCamp Dearborn

MI Bright Lights is a music-synchronized route at Camp Dearborn. Thousands of lights move with a rotating soundtrack broadcast to visitors in their cars, creating a more performance-driven experience than a route made mainly from static figures.

The attraction grew from the Bostick family’s residential display and now stretches for more than two miles. Ticket choices include standard admission, VIP entry, large-vehicle passes, and season passes. Pets may remain inside vehicles.

Drone performances are planned for selected nights and begin separately from the main drive-through. Visitors interested in that addition should choose a date specifically marked for the drone program.

Typical visitAbout 30–40 minutes

Joyful Lights uses more than a mile of the Hudsonville Fairgrounds for high-density LED displays synchronized to music. Its signature tunnel, animated fields of color, community installations, and Heroes Lane create a continuous vehicle route.

Visitors listen through the car radio and remain in the vehicle for the experience. The organizer lists standard and timed fast-pass entry, a vehicle-height limit, accessible viewing, and operation in winter weather.

The official site is active and posts dates and hours, but the current page does not identify the calendar year. Confirm that the displayed schedule applies to the 2026–27 season before purchasing.

2026 seasonNovember 28, 2026–January 3, 2027 on selected nights
Hours5–9 p.m.
Driving portionApproximately one mile

Gilmore Car Museum combines a one-mile drive-through with a larger holiday program across its automotive campus. Illuminated scenes and a light tunnel lead into museum galleries, decorated exhibits, and seasonal activities, so this can be a longer outing than a drive-only route.

The property adds automotive details through vintage vehicles, period settings, and optional rides from the museum collection. Indoor displays, a festival of trees, Santa visits, food, and selected theme nights are part of the broader event.

Tickets are date-specific, and some buildings remain closed during Winter Wonderland. Families should also note that portions of the experience involve outdoor walking even though the light route itself is driven.

FormatDrive-through-only nights

Crossroads Village normally hosts a walk-through Christmas program, but Genesee County Parks designates several nights when cars travel through the decorated historic property. Lights and holiday scenes appear around permanent village streets and buildings rather than temporary fairground structures.

The vehicle-only dates are separate from the standard Holiday Magic experience and do not include the normal village visit or Huckleberry Railroad ride. That distinction makes the selected date especially important.

The current official page posts four drive-through nights but does not label the schedule with a year. Confirm the calendar before traveling or treating the posted admission as current.

AlpenLights arranges oversized illuminated figures and Christmas scenes around the Otsego County Fairgrounds. The entire experience is designed for vehicles, with admission information for both cars and snowmobiles.

The snowmobile option gives the event a distinctly Northern Michigan character, although availability and route conditions should be checked directly. Drivers enter through the fairgrounds’ north entrance.

The ticket page is active and posts December dates and evening hours, but it does not print a year beside the schedule. Confirm the dates before presenting them as the final 2026 calendar.

Typical durationAbout 20 minutes at the posted pace
Vehicle noteNo buses, limousines, RVs, or trailers

Crane Orchards uses rows of dormant fruit trees as the setting for a farm-built light route. Hundreds of painted, welded, and hand-lit props appear throughout more than a mile of orchard scenery, creating a different atmosphere from stadium and fairground displays.

Visitors stay in their vehicle and tune the radio to the event’s holiday music. Tight corners restrict larger vehicles, while dogs are permitted to ride through inside the car.

The orchard confirms that the show is returning and directs visitors to watch for 2026 updates, but final dates and prices are not yet posted. Check the official page again when seasonal information is released.

StatusWinter lights confirmed; dates not yet posted

Deer Tracks Junction converts part of its large animal-park property into a vehicle-based Christmas Adventure. Illuminated scenes, lights, and music line a route that families follow from inside the car.

The year-round operation and active website distinguish this from an unverified temporary display. The property also operates a warm-weather drive-through safari, but Christmas Adventure is a separate winter program.

The current website confirms drive-through Christmas lights as a seasonal attraction without publishing the new holiday dates or prices. Recheck the event information once winter tickets become available.

More ways to get out

Pair the lights with another Michigan outing

Drive-through displays are convenient on cold nights, while Michigan’s other activity pages cover walkable holiday settings, animal encounters, farm visits, and seasonal recreation.

Holiday season

Walkable settings and winter animals

Families who want to leave the car can explore Michigan Christmas villages built around decorated streets, historic buildings, and seasonal markets. Reindeer farms add an animal-centered outing during the same part of the year, while snow-tubing hills continue operating after many Christmas displays close.

Animal encounters

Farm visits and vehicle safaris

Michigan alpaca farms include scheduled visits, fiber shops, and seasonal events. For a broader mix of animals, compare petting zoos with hands-on areas or drive-thru safaris where much of the experience takes place from the vehicle.

Growing season

Fields and harvest weekends

When winter ends, Michigan u-pick farms open in stages for berries, flowers, apples, and other crops. Later in the year, pumpkin patches bring together harvest fields, corn mazes, and family activities before Christmas-light season begins.

Alpacas in Michigan

A daytime farm visit before the lights

Holiday light routes begin after dark, leaving part of the day open for another nearby stop. Families interested in the animals’ behavior, fleece, care, and ability to handle winter conditions can learn more about alpacas and their lives on farms before visiting in person.

Public access differs from one property to another, especially during winter. Review the visiting arrangements, stores, events, and farm specialties at alpaca farms in Michigan, then confirm seasonal hours or reservations directly with the farm.
